Why your 1099-K doesn't match your deposits

Etsy's 1099-K reports the gross amount buyers paid for your orders, shipping included, before fees and refunds. It is not your income. Sales tax Etsy collected and sent to the state for you is left out of the form. ShopYear estimates the 1099-K figure from your orders, month by month, and walks it to Line 1.

Enter the number from your form and we'll tell you whether it matches, and what to check if it doesn't.

How it works

  1. Download from Etsy

Shop Manager → Finances → Monthly statements: one CSV per month. Then Settings → Options → Download Data → Orders (and Order Items, for per-listing profit). Where to find every file

  2. Drop them in

ShopYear recognizes each file, tells you which months are missing, and flags any row it doesn't understand instead of guessing.

  3. Take the numbers to your return

Print or save the report for your tax software or accountant: Schedule C lines, the 1099-K walk, a fee breakdown and per-listing profit.

Which listings actually made money

Fees, Offsite Ads, shipping labels and refunds are charged back to the orders they came from, then split across the items in each order. Add your material cost per item for true profit.

Your files stay on your computer

Your statements contain buyer names and addresses. ShopYear reads them with JavaScript in your browser tab; nothing is uploaded, stored or sent to us. Close the tab and it's gone.

Questions

Is this tax advice?

No. ShopYear organizes the numbers in your Etsy exports and shows how they connect. Your tax software or a tax professional decides how they're filed.

Why 12 statements?

Etsy only lets you download the monthly statement one month at a time, and that's where listing fees, ads, shipping labels and refunds live. ShopYear tells you exactly which months are still missing.

What about materials, packaging and my other costs?

ShopYear covers what Etsy knows: sales, refunds and every Etsy charge. You can add a material cost per listing; other business expenses stay in your own records. Materials and cost of goods sold for Etsy sellers shows where materials go on Schedule C.

Has ShopYear been tested on real Etsy files?

Not on many yet. ShopYear is new, and its file formats come from Etsy's published export layouts, not from a large set of real shops. Check every figure against your own Etsy statements and 1099-K before you file. If something doesn't match, the report has a "Report a mismatch" form: you type or paste only what you choose to send, and if a sample helps us fix it, we'll send you a free license.

What if Etsy changes its CSV format?

Columns are matched by name, not position, and any row ShopYear doesn't recognize is listed for you rather than silently counted or dropped.

Why is my 1099-K bigger than my deposits?

The form counts what buyers paid, shipping included, before Etsy's fees and refunds. Those come off on your Schedule C instead. Our guide walks it line by line: Etsy 1099-K vs. what you earned.
